As I mentioned in an earlier post, gamifying your fitness experience can be a fantastic way for some people to stay motivated. Here are some gamified fitness apps I recommend that may catch your interest and be worth trying:
· Zombie, Run! is a creative app that encourages users to run with the idea that they’re literally being chased by zombies for their life. The game uses audio cues and music to set you in the setting of a creepy zombie apocalypse that requires you to hurry up and run with your life on the line.
· The Walk A game developed by the same studio that made Zombie, Run!, this game offers a similar idea only this time you’re walking as opposed to running. The game reveals the story that you, the player, must deliver a package to save the world, with the catch being that you must walk the length of the UK to succeed.
· Fitness RPG: This app uses the creative idea of combining a classic video game RPG with a person’s steps. Every step you take becomes an experience for a team of characters to level up and battle. The app cleverly uses the hardware in your smartphone to keep consistent track of your steps, making it technically a pedometer.
· Walkr: This game is a little like Fitness RPG as it is a pedometer-type app with a creative twist. The game has users exploring the galaxy using a ship that is powered by the steps you take. This game offers a fun way to explore both the real world and digitally in outer space.
· Fitocracy: This app isn’t as stylish in the form of a game as the other apps, but it is still a fantastic way to try exercising. In a similar fashion to achievements, you may find when playing a game, this app creates achievements for users to try and complete which can range from short and sweet to tricky and challenging. These achievements can easily help motivate users to push themselves to perform the best workout possible.
