Now that we have discussed the importance of data privacy and explored ways to protect your personal data, for my next blog post, I would like to recommend an app called Strava that I have been using quite frequently in the past couple of months. Strava is a fitness app that allows users to keep a consistent track and record of their runs, cycling, swims, and other workout activities. Strava has become extremely popular over the years, building a large community and constantly appearing on many lists of the best fitness apps to use today. I personally use the app to keep track of my runs, so I will mostly be talking about the app’s specific features related to running.
Although the app does offer a paid service for more features, it is also perfectly functional using the free option. When you purchase the subscription, you are offered several tools that can benefit your experience. The app offers to track your distance, running route, heart rate, and elevation gain while you’re either outdoors moving through your neighborhood or indoors on a treadmill. Strava also encourages users to follow friends and join online groups to help promote both their own health and a sense of community watching someone else’s progress. You could even find exciting paths and routes people took near you that may look appealing to try out on your next run. I have grown to appreciate using this app whenever I go out to run, as it helps motivate me to watch my progress grow throughout the month. For example, I started using this app as I was just getting back into running with an all-right time for a 5k at just under 30 minutes. Since then, I have slowly made progress, and I can now run a 5K in just over 23 minutes, It is still not the craziest time, but it is an obvious improvement.
